The Goods Shed - Canterbury
Farmer's Market, Food Hall and Restaurant
If you like good quality grub at a reasonable price point, this may be a "good" place for you to explore. Situated a few metres from Canterbury West train station, the Goods Shed is easy to get to via train and bus. Boasting its own private car park and bicycle rack, the Goods Shed does not discriminate against the outwardly mobile. No excuse to not visit.
The Goods shed is resident in an 18th century, converted coach works building, originally used for building and maintaining train engines and coaches. The renovation is complimentary and creates a nice atmosphere for dining and some light shopping.
What you can find; there are several food stalls present including a butchers, a bakers, a patisserie and a grocer (selling seasonal produce) and several other stalls vending some more unusual produce. Much of the fresh produce is sourced locally and takes pride in the fact.
Importantly, there are also a couple of good places to eat a snack or sit down to a more substantial meal. The main restaurant is excellent (we are speaking from experience) and serves a somewhat seasonal menu which is augmented regularly. You can usually get a table easily during the week but you will need to book in advance for weekend dining.
Check out the Goods Shed when you can.
