History Of Nokian Footwear

History Of Nokian Footwear

Finnish Rubber Works Ltd first started producing rubber boots in the early 1900s in order to compete with inferior quality Russian made imports (little changes). After several years, they moved their production from Helsinki to Nokia where they adopted the name Nokia as a nod to their "Finnishness" as well as  to distinguish themselves from foreign imports. In 1967 the company merged with two other local companies to form the "Nokia Corporation" (later of mobile phone fame). In the 1980's, the company split itself into their respective areas of expertise, including the "Nokian Footwear" company, whom naturally focused on manufacturing rubber based footwear. Translated, Nokian Footwear is literally "footwear of Nokia".

In 1973, the company released its now world famous "Kontio" model boot followed closely by the "Hai" model. These now iconic designs have since been refined and improved upon, leading to the current revision. With uniquely Nordic styling and an emphasis on comfort, quality and warmth, these waterproof boots will not let you down in unfavourable meteorological conditions (rain). Certain models are supplied with an ultra warm, removable, 100% felt wool lining which should keep your feet warm down to the lowest temperatures.

Again, depending on model, Nokians are great for walking, trekking, farming, gardening, dog-walking, skiing, camping, bog trotting and more.
