Heating Times and Running Costs of the Hikki Bohemen Wood Fired Tub
The Hikki Bohemen wood-fired hot tub is a premium outdoor bath made from wood and aluminium. As it made with aluminium, it can safely be used in conjunction with seawater or saltwater. On top of this utility, we can add fast heating times;
In Spring/Summer, with an air temperature of approximately 8 degrees Celsius, the bath can be heated to bathing temperature (circa 40 degrees Celsius) in approximately 80-90 minutes.
In colder weather, with a starting temperature of approximately 4 degrees Celsius, heating time will be approximately 120-140 minutes to reach 40 degrees Celsius.
Typically, heating the Bohemen to temperature uses approximately 7 to 10 kilos of firewood (circa 15 lbs) which in the UK typically costs around £10 in 2025. So if used approximately once a week, the running cost of the Bohemen would be around £40. Compare this to an electric hot tub which has an average running cost of approximately £80+/month, there are definitely saving to be had. Obviously, if you are intending to the use the tub on a daily basis, then going the route of electric may be preferable, from a cost standpoint. However, one must bear in mind that there are other costs associated with running an electric tub and that is the chemicals required to maintain the hygiene standards of the water (these cost approximately £10/month). This also adds an environmental impact (chlorine and bromine are "not good" for the environment). Additionally, exposing skin to chlorine and bromine can have some detrimental effects as well. The Bohemen offers a nice medium as it safe to use in conjunction with saltwater or even seawater so potentially requires no further chemical purification. This also mean the waste water is less hazardous so less problematic to dispose of.
Please note, the use of proper insulation is highly recommended as this will greatly reduce the cost of heating as well as heating time. This applies to any hot tub.
